Privacy Policy

Last updated: April 9, 2026

The short version: Notchd keeps your data on your device. We don't have servers that store your recordings or journal entries. We don't sell your data. We don't know what you've captured.

What Notchd collects

Voice recordings and transcripts

Your voice recordings are transcribed entirely on your device using on-device AI (Whisper). Audio files are stored locally on your iPhone. Transcripts are stored in a private database on your device. Neither audio nor text is sent to Notchd's servers.

iCloud sync

If you use iCloud sync, your journal entries are synced to your personal iCloud account via Apple's CloudKit. This data is stored in your private iCloud container — only you can access it. Notchd cannot read your iCloud data.

Location

If you grant location permission, Notchd captures your approximate location at the time of each entry. This data is stored locally on your device and synced to your personal iCloud. It is never sent to Notchd.

AI enrichment (optional)

If you provide your own OpenAI API key, your transcript text is sent to OpenAI for cleanup and tagging. Your API key is stored securely in your device's Keychain. Notchd never sees your API key or your transcripts. You are subject to OpenAI's privacy policy for this data.

Crash reporting

Notchd uses Sentry for crash reporting. If the app crashes, a crash report is sent to Sentry that may include device model, OS version, and a stack trace. No journal content is included in crash reports.
